About Me

Welcome to Sweat Style!

My name is Jamima Wolk. I was born in Switzerland (hence the unique first name). Although I moved to the U.S. when I was one and love it here, Swiss culture is still a large part of my identity (especially the chocolate!).

From a very early age, I was athletic (my mom soon realized this at about 2 years old when I was literally bouncing off the walls; she quickly signed me up for gymnastics at the advice of my pediatrician).  I eventually became a professional triathlete, triathlon coach, and have a degree in kinesiology. I started competing as a professional in 2000 and retired in 2007. My race resume includes everything from sprint to Ironman distance races.

After retirement, I completed an MBA program and decided to take a huge risk and launch an iPhone App on triathlons. I now have three apps out (First Time Triathlon, Triathlon Trainer and iRideInside).  The apps have allowed me to do what I truly enjoy: encouraging people to challenge themselves physically, whether it’s completing your first Pilates class, running your first 5k or finishing an Ironman triathlon.

Besides training, I am also obsessed with fashion.  Whether it’s haute couture or thrift store finds, I enjoy it.  This includes fitness apparel – which I spend a lot of time wearing, as you might guess.  I was a fitness apparel buyer for many years and also consulted for various vendors as well.  I always enjoy seeing the newest designs and the latest fabric technology, and giving feedback to the vendors.

Fitness apparel represents the intersection of two things that I love – fitness and fashion.  Fitness apparel has changed significantly over the years and now incorporates both function and style.  (Like they say, “If you look good, you feel good” – and will hopefully have a good workout as well!)  And fitness apparel has gone beyond just using it to sweat at the gym; people use it as casual wear.

With this blog, I hope to explore and discuss this intersection of fitness and fashion.  But most of all, I hope this blog can bring you some inspiration to become more healthy and fit.
